Job Overview
JL and ZE McNair are seeking a dedicated, motivated dairy herd manager to join our family-run, 280-cow autumn-seasonal-calving dairy farm, located just 5 minutes from Nathalia, Victoria.
This is a long-term, full-time position within an irrigated, pasture-based dairy system, utilizing both flood and pivot irrigation. A spacious 4-bedroom house is provided on the farm.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the farm owners, the herd manager will be involved in all aspects of daily dairy operations, including

Herd management with a strong focus on animal health and welfare

Milking in a 21-aside herringbone swing-over dairy

Calf rearing and young stock management

Pasture management, feed allocation, and monitoring

Feeding out and operating farm machinery

Machinery care, servicing, and basic maintenance

Assisting with soil health and land management practices

General farm duties as required

Candidate Requirements
We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for dairy farming. While training can be provided, prior dairy experience is essential.
You will have:

Experience or strong interest in herd management and animal health

Knowledge of calf rearing and pasture-based systems

An honest, reliable, and flexible work attitude

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Confidence in operating farm machinery (or willingness to learn)

Pride in maintaining farm facilities and providing accommodation

A valid driver’s license (required for on-road machinery operation)
